The Funeral Service conducted by Revd. Paul Burrows-Gibson

Created by Wessex Funeral Services 8 years ago
Before the service started Ken made his final journey from his Home in North Baddesley to the Crematorium followed by his Family. His coffin was draped in the Union Flag and surrounded by flowers from the family.

On arrival at the Crematorium, the Cortege paused so the family could witness the last stage of the journey as the Standard Bearer of the Royal British Legion marched slowly in front of the hearse with the Padre behind him. A former member of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers saluted as we arrived at the entrance of the chapel

The Welcome and Opening prayer

Hymn – All Things Bright and Beautiful

All things bright and beautiful,
all creatures great and small,
all things wise and wonderful
the Lord God made them all.

Each little flower that opens,
each little bird that sings,
he made their glowing colours,
he made their tiny wings:
All things bright …

He gave us eyes to see them,
and lips that we might tell
how great is God almighty,
who has made all things well:

All things bright and beautiful,
all creatures great and small,
all things wise and wonderful,
the Lord God made them all.

The Gift of Love

Love is patient; love is kind;
love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude.
It does not insist on its own way;
it is not irritable or resentful;
it does not rejoice in wrongdoing,
but rejoices in the truth.
It bears all things, believes all things,
hopes all things, endures all things.
And now faith, hope, and love abide,
these three; and the greatest of these is love

The Tribute

A time for reflection
Swing Low, Sweet Chariot- Russell Watson

A Tribute given by Graham Mills

Memories of the heart

Feel no guilt in laughter, Ken knows how much you care. Feel no sorrow in a smile That he’s not here to share.

Thanksgiving for the life of Ken

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us all with the gift of this earthly life and has given to Ken his span of years and gifts of character.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth,
As it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those that trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
The power, and the glory,
For ever and ever.
Amen.

The Regimental Prayer of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers

O God our guide from of old, grant that wherever thy servants of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers are called upon to serve, we may follow the example of thy servant St George and ever prove steadfast in Faith and valiant in Battle, through him who is the Captain of our Salvation, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Hymn: Praise my Soul

Praise, my soul, the King of heaven;
to his feet thy tribute bring.
Ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven,
who like me his praise should sing?
Alleluia, Alleluia!
Praise the everlasting King.

Praise him for his grace and favour
to our fathers in distress;
Praise him still the same for ever,
slow to chide, and swift to bless.
Alleluia, Alleluia!
Glorious in his faithfulness.

Father like, he tends and spares us;
well our feeble frame he knows:
In his hands he gently bears us,
rescues us from all our foes.
Alleluia, Alleluia!
Widely as his mercy flows.

Angels, help us to adore him;
ye behold him face to face;
sun and moon, bow down before him,
dwellers all in time and space.
Alleluia, Alleluia!
Praise with us the God of grace.

The Commendation

The Committal

To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose on earth, a time to be born and a time to die.

Here in this last act, in sorrow but without fear, in love and appreciation, we commit Ken to eternal rest

The Act Of Remembrance

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old,
Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning
We will remember them.
